Presentation Delivery Workshop

In this 3-session workshop, you will:

    • Learn to structure a short 5-7 minute presentation on a topic of your choosing
    • Get feedback on your slide design for large and small audiences
    • Get live feedback from a professional presentation coach as you rehearse your presentation in front of the group
    • Learn some relaxation techniques to help you shine during your presentations
    • Learn to tailor your presentation content and delivery to whichever audience you will be speaking to
    • Discover and highlight your natural speaking strengths and how to work through your areas for growth
    • Be videotaped and given a copy of yourself presenting in 2 different phases of your presentation
    • Get experience practicing in a 300 person venue
    • Be confident the next time you give a presentation to a large audience!

Required: Bring a thumb drive and a topic.  Access to PowerPoint, Open Office or Keynote to create your presentation

PowerPoint for PC

In this 2 hour session you will learn:

    • Basic commands in PowerPoint including: creating objects, text boxes, lining up objects, cleaning up bullet points, reapplying masters, changing fonts and more
    • What ribbons are and how to move about them
    • How to legally source and import images and manipulate them within PowerPoint (cropping, framing, colors)
    • How to create builds and animations
    • How to import editable illustrations from Adobe Illustrator
    • How to insert data-driven charts within PPT and to import from Excel
    • How to create slide masters (fonts, colors, creation of a basic slides)
    • And any other tasks that the class requests

Requirements: Bring your own laptop with PPT 2007 or higher

 

PowerPoint for Mac

In this 2 hour session you will learn:

    • Basic commands in PowerPoint including: creating objects, text boxes, lining up objects, cleaning up bullet points, reapplying masters, changing fonts and more
    • What ribbons are and how to move about them

    • Basic commands in Keynote including: creating objects, text boxes, lining up objects, cleaning up bullet points, reapplying masters, changing fonts and more
    • How to import documents from PowerPoint
    • How to work between PowerPoint and Keynote
    • Where basic commands are located
    • How to create builds and animations
    • How to legally source and import images and manipulate them within Keynote (cropping, framing, colors)
    • How to insert data-driven charts within Keynote
    • How to create slide masters (fonts, colors, creation of a basic slides)
    • And any other tasks that the class requests

Requirements: Bring your own laptop with Keynote

 

Chart Selection

In this 2 hour session you will:

    • Get a vocabulary for talking about chart selection
    • Learn about trigger words and how they play a role in chart selection
    • Learn about different categories of data charts
    • Learn to match your visuals to your messages
    • Learn about different categories of conceptual charts
    • Learn how to draw some conceptual charts
    • Learn some sources for templates to pull from and why you should tailor them for your own purposes
    • Learn how to convert  a lap deck to an on-screen presentation
    • At the end you will get to test your new knowledge

Requirements: Something to take notes with

 

Chart Design for Non-Designers

In this 1 hour session you will:

    • Learn the basics of color theory and color psychology and how to set basic color schemes for your PowerPoint and Keynote documents
    • Learn the basics of page composition
    • Learn where to source images legally and how to manipulate them within PowerPoint and Keynote
    • How to think metaphorically and select images accordingly
    • Learn about basic image hygiene
    • When to use builds
    • Learn about the basics for font selection

Charting Clinic

In this 2 hour session, we will go through your pre-sent charts and make suggestions for improvement.

Requirements: Chart Selection, 2 charts to be sent to instructor before class
